What We're Following

Good morning! Here’s the latest:

Financial markets: Stocks in China closed sharply higher today, ending a three-day losing streak that put the Shanghai composite index in negative territory. The index’s 5.4-percent rally comes on the back of heavy gains on Wall Street yesterday. U.S. futures also surged today. Despite the gains, concerns linger about the health of the Chinese economy, the world’s second-largest. Update: More here.

A Virginia town remembers two reporters: Tributes continue to pour in for Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who were killed yesterday by a former colleague, Vester Flanagan, during a live broadcast. We’re learning more about the two victims, as well as the man who shot them. Update: More here.

Obama visits New Orleans: The president visits the city that was rebuilt after the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. The tenth anniversary of the storm is this weekend. But as we’ve observed, despite the progress, the city is far from healed.
