The Security Council says Antonio Guterres is its unanimous choice for secretary-general.

NEWS BRIEF The UN Security Council says Portugal’s Antonio Guterres is its unanimous choice to be secretary-general.
Samantha Power, the U.S. envoy to the UN, tweeted the news:

Guterres is the ninth person—and the ninth man—to hold the position. He succeeds South Korea’s Ban Ki-moon, who is retiring.
Guterres, a former Portuguese prime minister, previously served as UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
