Obama welcomes Trudeau to the White House: “We are very proud to welcome the first official visit by a Canadian prime minister in nearly 20 years,” Obama said, adding, to laughter: “It’s about time, eh?” The U.S. and Canada announced, among other things, a 40-45 percent reduction by 2025 in methane emissions below 2012 levels by the oil and gas industry.

A new secretary of the Army:  The Senate Armed Services Committee confirmed Eric Fanning by a voice vote today. He is the first openly gay leader of U.S. military service.
