Oh my, what is this? This is Stentor. It's a type of benthic ciliate. Benthic means the bottom of a body of water, the muddy floor of a pond, for example. That's where Stentor lives, in the benthic zone. This one was all curled up. Here we can see it opening up again to its "trumpet" form. Though, one might also describe it as looking a little phallic.
