Opposition to refugees grows: House Speaker Paul Ryan has called for a “pause” on the acceptance of Syrian refugees into the U.S. Paul’s comments follow that of several American governors who say they won’t welcome Syrian refugees in the wake of the attacks in France.

Minneapolis shooting update: Mayor Betsy Hodges has asked the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division to open an investigation into the shooting by police of a black man on Sunday. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting its own investigation of the incident. The man’s family identified him as Jamar Clark, 24.
