Pumpkin Spice, From A to Z

Editor’s Note: This article previously appeared in a different format as part of The Atlantic’s Notes section, retired in 2021.

Recently I’ve seen so much Pumpkin Spice online and in stores—a $361 million industry—that it seemed like a fun challenge to see if I could quickly compose an alphabet composed solely from Pumpkin Spice products. It turned out to be easier than I thought (except for X, but X is always troublesome, no?)

Applesauce on the Go, Biscotti, Cream Cheese Spread, Doughnut Holes, Egg Nog, Fudge Stripe Cookies, Granola Bars, Hummus, Ice Chips Candy, Jet-Puffed Marshmallows, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Latte, M&Ms, Non-Alcoholic Coffee Creamer, Oreo Cookies, Peeps Dipped in White Fudge, Quest Bars, Rum, Sugar Free Gum, Twinkies, Unsweetened Gourmet Flavoring , Vodka, Waffles, eXtract, Yogurt (Greek), and a Zucchini Bread recipe.

Thankfully no foie gras yet.
