Marriage in Rowan County: James Yates and William Smith Jr. became the first same-sex couple to get a marriage license in the Kentucky county. Deputy clerk Brian Mason ended Rowan County’s defiance of the Supreme Court’s June 26 ruling on same-sex marriage.

Refugee crisis: British Prime Minister David Cameron says the U.K. will accept “thousands” more Syrian refugees. Earlier today the U.N. refugee agency called for the EU to take in 200,000 more.

Space: Three European astronauts have arrived at the International Space Station after a two-day trip aboard a Soyuz capsule that circled the globe 34 times before it docked. They were joined, as my colleague Marina notes, by Legos.
