On Tuesday afternoon, the ISIL-controlled media outlet AlFurqan published a video of American journalist James Foley being beheaded by what appears to be a British executioner. Since that time, authorities have been working to authenticate the video. Unlike other ISIL videos of this sort, it is edited to not show the entire murder.

The White House National Security Council confirmed today just after 11:30 a.m. that the video of James Foley's tragic death is authentic. Spokesperson Caitlin Hayden issued this statement:

The U.S. Intelligence Community has analyzed the recently released video showing U.S. citizens James Foley and Steven Sotloff. We have reached the judgment that this video is authentic. We will continue to provide updates as they are available.”

This comes after the FBI was able to unofficially authenticate the video to the Foley family earlier this morning.

President Barack Obama has announced that he will address the video at 12:45 pm today from Martha's Vineyard.
