The Howard County Police Depart confirmed over Twitter that three people died Saturday at the Columbia Mall in Columbia, Maryland. At least one body, believed to be the suspect, was found near a gun and ammunition. Their identities are unknown at this time. What exactly happened inside the mall is also unknown.
Police responded to reports of an active shooter at the mall early Saturday morning. Emergency crews raced to the mall and began securing the area and encouraging people to stay away. The Baltimore Sun reports the mall was put on lockdown and shoppers were directed towards the AMC theater for safety. Police helicopters flew overhead while officers searched through car trunks in the parking lot as a safety precaution.
