Know Your Flag! The Evolution of the Stars and Stripes

A 1930s educational film traces the origins of the U.S. flag through the centuries.

June 14 marks Flag Day, as proclaimed by Woodrow Wilson in1916. Courtesy of the Prelinger Archive, this 1938 educational film traces the origins of the U.S. flag through the centuries, beginning with the Union Jack and the flags of the first colonies of the New World. While its jolly patriotism is a little overwhelming, the film is a fascinating mini history of an iconic design.
