When Andy Rooney went in for minor surgery last week nobody really noticed, but things turned grave on Tuesday when CBS announced its former 60 Minutes commentator had suffered "serious complications" and had to go to the hospital. The network issued a statement that said Rooney is in stable condition, but the guy is 92, so any kind of medical condition is a scare. The network's statement:

Andy Rooney underwent minor surgery last week and suffered serious complications. For that reason, he remains in the hospital, but his condition is stable. The Rooney family asks that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.

It appears Newsday broke the story, at least according to the Huffington Post. Rooney, whose opinion segment  ran on 60 Minutes for 33 years, broadcast the last regular installment on Oct. 2.
