The notion of a woman as a soda can makes about as much sense as the notion as a soda can as a woman, which makes roughly about as much sense as the latest news from Fashion Week: apparently Diet Pepsi's new skinny can is designed to be "taller" and "sassier" in order to celebrate "beautiful, confident women." Now that is some celebration!
Apparently in these modern times, women are free from the burden of curves and contours. The beautiful guitar, the lovely vase, the tropical fruit; these are very outdated objects to which to compare a woman. Plus, they are not recyclable.
Of course, as the Boston Globe editorial board points out today, "it's clear that by 'beautiful' and 'confident,' Pepsi means skinny. It's an ironic message coming from, of all companies, a soft-drink maker."
