Don't know if you guys saw this, but here it is. Stewart is, as usual, really sharp. It's really hard for me to disagree with his general critique--cable news was first among many reasons I tossed my television. I think he's only half-right about the rancor at work in the country. His point that people with kids have stuff in common too is a good one. But that's about the broader American society--not the political realm which is where cable news lives. Perhaps people go to MSNBC to get a robust portrait of American life. But I kind of doubt it. I think the core of their audience is made up of political junkies.
Socially, we surely have a lot in common. But in terms of politics, we've always been at war. I get tired of watching that war over and over again. I'm just burnt out on politics. I can't think about the latest outrageous statement from Sarah Palin. But there is an audience that devours this stuff.
Again, I was terribly impressed with Stewart. I thought his point on Bush and the "war criminal" charge was astute. But I wish his critique included the audience.
