Westboro Baptist Church To Protest Comic-Con

The Westboro Baptist Church is known for their purposefully offensive protests, signature signs reading "God Hates Fags,"and penchant for protesting military funerals. Blastr, a SyFy Channel blog, reports that Fred Phelp's gang of protesting misfits are focus their next attack on an unexpected target: nerds. The group announced that it would be picketing the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, July 22, accusing the widely-anticipated gathering of geekdom of idolatry:

Are you kidding?! If these people would spend even some of the energy that they spend on these comic books, reading the Bible, well no high hopes here. They have turned comic book characters into idols, and worship them they do!
