SO THE MUSIC ENDURES.
Dedicated to the development of American operatic talent, the Richard Tucker Music Foundation works year round scouting, raising funds, and, lately, commissioning new music. (Its top award, more than $30,000, is the singers’ Nobel Prize.) Once a year stars rally in force to top of f the coffers. This year’s gala, at New York’s Avery Fisher I Iall on December 12, showcases the most recent prizewinner: the bel canto enchantress Ruth Ann Swenson, a lyric coloratura soprano as warm and engaging as she is precise. The basses James Morris and Samuel Ramey face off in a spine-tingling confrontation from Verdi’s Don Carlos. Plus much more. (For tickets call 212-757-2218.)
