Once in Europa

by John Berger.Pantheon, $14.95. Mr. Berger continues his studies of life in the French Alps in the form of Action. The stories in this collection have to do with various forms of love, described with subtlety and delicacy and expressed almost entirely in terms of action. There is no resort to psychological probings or family histories. Mr. Berger’s ability to establish his characters as solidly present people makes such devices unnecessary.
