by John Masters. Putnam’s, $6.95. “A novel about Gibraltar,” according to the dust jacket. Bosh. The book consists of descriptions of conditions on and around Gibraltar from the Stone Age to 1985, accompanied by illustrative short stories. It is as long as the Amazon and as shallow as a wading pool, of interest chiefly as evidence that even a reliable old pro like Mr. Masters cannot win them all.
