The Artist as Critic: Critical Writings of Oscar Wilde

Short Reviews:

edited by Richard Ellmann. Random House, #10.00. His book reviews and occasional pieces prove that while Wilde could be superbly malicious with fatheads, he was a generous and painstaking critic, quick to find merit and delighted to announce the discovery. It is easy to damn a book amusingly. Wilde could praise amusingly, a rare and difficult trick.
