The Dictionary Gargoyle

The gargoyle is a bird of stone
who never flaps his wings,
and is (Old French gargouille) mostly throat.
Though strong and fierce, he has never flown;
but nests on roofs, and clings
to cornices, high and remote.
The gargoyle perches all alone,
and when it rains, he sings —
a gurgle is his single note.
