Coast Flight

by WINIFRED HARE
LOOK down the air — the dark sea leaping
Slaps on white sand,
Lips the green land as a long snake creeping
Laps in his bands
Furrow and field in his body’s reaping—
Water wraps earth like a serpent sleeping.
Seen from steel wings the deep sea sliding
Strikes to the sky
Blue like the scales of a snake in hiding —
Light to the eye
Spills over rocks like a blacksnake gliding.
