Now that we know,
We can meet in a public place
And hold time for a moment.
Face to face,
Letting our separate lives
Flow at their normal pace.
Your eyes are free of that look
That once professed
Such want, I met it
With my own, and shook
Our hearts to pieces.
Then we confessed.
Now that the words are spoken
They can never be unsaid—
Need never be said again,
But the silent dread
Of dying without being loved
Is broken.
