No Vain Imaginings

by ROBERTA TEALE SWARTZ
O LOVE, this love shall be employed
Though it be painful and profound,
A wind upon a jungle sea,
A river running underground.
Let tigers drink at that sea’s edge,
Let birds discover hidden streams,
Let all the force of all you are
Come to my thought but in such dreams
As lapping gently at the mind
Make the occasion more to be
And light the eyes for others here
And raise the day’s reality.
