The Divine Comedy

Translated by Laurence Grant White

THIS new translation in blank verse seeks to recapture the great narrative power of Dante’s masterpiece. Designed to be more readable to contemporaries than Longfellow’s rendition, it is free of archaisms, clear, simple, and painstakingly accurate. The author, who comes from a family of Dante enthusiasts, worked on his translation over a period of twenty-five years. The book is superbly printed and contains seventy full-page reproductions of Gustave Doré’s famous illustrations.
