Sergeant Lamb's America

ByRobert Graves
MR. GRAVES, whose reputation as a re-creator of the past was established by his I, Claudius and Claudius the God, has in this book turned his attention to the American Revolutionary War. Sergeant Lamb served in the British forces under Burgoyne in this country, and left letters and perhaps a journal which Mr. Graves has used as the basis for this book. On the whole it is disappointing. It has the factual verisimilitude of a story by Defoe, but it lacks vitality and that suspense which intrigues the reader. An interesting work, but uninspired.
