CONSTANCE ROURKE has explored for herself the backwoods of American history. She made a refreshing study of the American theatricals that accompanied the California Gold Rush; next she turned to her salty biography of Davy Crockett, which was published in 1934. Of late she has followed Audubon’s trails along the Florida Keys, by canoe through the rivers of the Everglades and along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, and made many trips looking for birds in the Louisiana bayous.
