We've totally forgiven Cecilia Gimenez for ruining Elias Garcia Martinez's Ecce Homo, and judging by the numerous remixes of her work, it looks like you guys have too. Gimenez, as you may know (but may not know her by name), was the subject of controversy when the Spanish octogenarian tried to restore a 100-year-old fresco of Jesus Christ and turned it into, more or less a doodle. This is what she did (photo via AP):

"The once-dignified portrait now resembles a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic," The BBC wrote. And while Gimenez's "hairy monkey" portrait stumped Spanish officials, the Internet has for the most part has rallied around her work. As Gawker's Neetzan Zimmerman points out, there's even an online petition with over 11,000 signatures in support of Gimenez. And in a display of true Internet love, Gimenez's "hairy monkey" has become a Duchampian meme. For your viewing pleasure...
