Benedict Cumberbatch is the go-to guy for prickly geniuses, and there's another variation on the theme in the trailer for The Imitation Game, Cumberbatch's Alan Turing biopic. The trailer focuses on Turing's work as a codebreaker during WWII rather than his subsequent persecution for homosexuality and eventual suicide. Keira Knightley is also on view here as Joan Clarke, Turing's good friend to whom at one point he was engaged.
So is this Cumberbatch's big Oscar hope? His last biopic about an iconic hacker—The Fifth Estate, in which he played Julian Assange—ended up flopping, and the Turing project has been in the works for a while. The Imitiation Game is scheduled to open the BFI London Film Festival.
Update: The trailer above is a UK one, below watch The Weinstein Company's look at the film.
