Despite the fact that it scores one of the sharpest comedies of all time, the theme song from Tootsie—"It Might Be You"—is sort of goopy. But prepare to fall in love with a new version of the song from composer Julian Wass.
According to HitFix, which has the debut of the track, Wass adapted the song, originally performed by Stephen Bishop, for the film, The Pretty One, currently available on VOD. With vocals from Karryn, Wass strips away some of the 80s cheese, resulting in a tune that's simply beautiful. Click over to HitFix to hear the cover. Now compare with the original:
Basically, the tune has us hankering for an entire album of strikingly lovely covers of '80s movie ballads. "Arthur's Theme" from Arthur; "Let the River Run" from Working Girl; "She's Like the Wind" from Dirty Dancing; and "Up Where We Belong" from An Officer and a Gentleman — the list really does go on and on.
