Idina Menzel had a rough night at the Oscars, but this makes up for it entirely. Here's the Broadway star—who is not named Adele Dazeem, no matter what John Travolta has to say about it—singing the hit, Oscar-winning song from Frozen, "Let It Go," along with The Roots, Jimmy Fallon, and some classroom instruments. It's just about perfect.
Despite our love for Menzel and "Let It Go," we honestly weren't sure how this was going to work out. Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez's ballad is orchestral and sweeping. The other songs Fallon and The Roots have orchestrated with children's instruments have been jauntier. (See, for instance, the rendition of "All I Want for Christmas Is You.") But the final, YouTube-ready product was magnificent. And let's face it: Idina deserved it. After Travolta butchered her name, Menzel had a shaky Oscar performance, in which it seemed that the orchestra was perhaps too loud or off tempo and an important verse was cut.
But thanks to Fallon, everything is right in the world. Listen. Re-listen. Listen again. Be charmed by Questlove on kazoo.
