New Zealand's Grammy-winning singer Lorde definitely seems older than her years: but it's now official that she's not lying about being a teenager. The Harpin's Emma Carmichael went ahead and obtained Lorde's birth certificate, which reveals that she is 17-years-old, born on November 7, 1996.
Doubting the youth of Lorde—actually born Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O'Connor, according to her birth certificate—is something of a joke that Lorde herself is in on. When Vanity Fair's Julie Miller asked Lorde about the Internet age-theories, Lorde herself responded: "Hi, I’m Ella, and I’m actually 45." But, no, she's a teenager. A teenager who is more successful than you are.
Meanwhile, let's not forget that Beyoncé had an age-related controversy first.
