The trend of celebrity-filled book trailers can be eye-roll provoking—see: James Franco's appearance in Gary Shteyngart's latest—but the ad for B.J. Novak's debut book is, well, completely charming.
The trailer—filmed entirely in a New Wave-y black and white—stars Novak's The Office costar and IRL BFF Mindy Kaling, as a pretentious French writer. (The translated title of her book: Is It Existentially Possible That the World Hangs Out in My Absence. The title of Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns).) To impress her and her circle of friends Novak goes and writes a book. Names dropped in the trailer? Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Rainn Wilson. There's also a "that's what she said" joke. But it's cute.
One More Thing, which impressed us when we saw Novak at New York Comic-Con this past fall, is out February 4. Meanwhile, news broke this week that Novak signed a deal with Penguin Young Readers Group for two children's books, the first of which will be out in fall 2014.
