Nine movies made it to the next round of voting in the Oscar's foreign language competition, but some notable films will not be making it to the ceremony.
The films that will advance to the next round of voting include Belgium's story of love and bluegrass, The Broken Circle Breakdown; Denmark's tale of a man accused of sexually assaulting a child, The Hunt; and Italy's take on partying to excess in Rome, The Great Beauty.
Notably left off the list: Saudi Arabia's historic Wadjda, which was the first Saudi film ever directed by a woman; the latest from Iranian director Asghar Farhadi (who won the Oscar for A Separation two years ago), The Past; and Chile's well-received Gloria.
