The Simpsons' chalkboard gag was a sad one last night. To honor of Marcia Wallace, the actress who provided the voice of teacher Edna Krabappel, Bart wrote "We'll Really Miss You Mrs. K." Wallace died last month at the age of 70 following complications related to pneumonia, and last night's tribute was simple, yet fitting. The New York Times' Dave Itzkoff called the chalkboard gag a "heartbreaker," while HitFix's Alan Sepinwall called it "so sad."

Before last night's new episode—which focused on the death of an entirely different character—Fox re-aired the Mrs. Krabappel-focused episode "The Ned-Liest Catch." After Wallace's death producer Al Jean announced that the show would "retire her irreplaceable character."

Per Uproxx, the episode also honored Wallace with one of her trademark "Ha!"s.
