The first full trailer for the second installment of Peter Jackson's for-some-reason-three-part Hobbit trilogy is out, and while we finally get to hear The Desolation of Smaug's titular dragon we also seem to get a lot of plot padding. For instance, do you remember an elf love story in the 310-page book? Yeah, we don't, either. Jackson and Fran Walsh invented Evangeline Lilly's character Tauriel. (It's still unclear just exactly who is involved in this romance.)

That's just one potential plot point that's teased out in this trailer, which ultimately is so stuffed that it's hard to get a read on the film. Still, we do get some tantalizing moments featuring Martin Freeman's Bilbo and that treacherous ring—you know the one—and we finally get to hear what Benedict Cumberbatch sounds like as Smaug. (He sounds like a slightly growlier Benedict Cumberbatch.)
