We knew this was coming. Last week's bit of viral levity—the crazy email from a profane University of Maryland Delta Gamma sorority girl—has started to get parodied in viral video form. And, as DG tries to restore their image, actor Michael Shannon has already pretty much perfected the sorority girl parody form.
Shannon, who is best known for playing deranged weirdos like Boardwalk Empire's Nelson Van Alden, has all the beats down right in this new video from Funny or Die, wherein he sits in front of a coffee table, reciting the email with a straight face. Just wait until he has to say "stupid fucking cocks." We can only hope he brings this much gusto to his performance as General Zod in the new Superman movie.
Now, Michael Shannon isn't alone in sorority girl email parody. The Cut has a video from YouTube called "The Most Popular Girls in School," in which a stop-motion Barbie reads the email. Unfortunately, she just doesn't have Shannon's subtlety.
While the sorority girl email is still showing its viral legs, Delta Gamma has issued a statement trying to distance itself from the email:
We want to make it clear that this letter in no way reflects the values of Delta Gamma as an International Fraternity or our chapter at the University of Maryland. The processes by which Delta Gamma handles member discipline are confidential, but we have a team of women working with the chapter to take all appropriate action including protecting, educating and supporting the chapter members in the aftermath of this event.
