Welcome to the Smart Set. Every morning we bring you the gossip coverage, filtered. Today: Nobody tells Morgan Freeman how to plug a movie, one of John Travolta's masseurs hires Gloria Allred, and Kanye West isn't singing about Kim Kardashian,
The first masseur John Travolta allegedly pawed -- the one who flight records suggest is making up or perhaps just misremembering the alleged gropage -- has hired Gloria Allred as his attorney. So we'll be hearing from him soon. [Radar]
Kanye West's super-secret new track-- which media types have taken to calling "White Dress," which is nice -- is not about his undying love for Kim Kardashian, according to sources close to the rapper. We're happy to hear that obviously, because the American Mozart should not be moved creatively by a Kardashian. (In an ideal world, Kanye's muse would be Lena Olin.) Sources say the lyrics were composed "two weeks before" Kimye was unleashed on an unsuspecting public. It should be noted though, Kardashian wears a lot of white dresses. [Gatecrasher]
Warner Bros. shareholders meeting took place yesterday largely without incident, save for the guy who was upset that Morgan Freeman went on Piers Morgan Tonight during the press tour for Dolphin Tale and said the Tea Party "is racist and wants to screw the country." The shareholder then asked Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes what steps the studio would take to make sure Freeman "avoids such divisive and insulting words while promoting his next Warner Bros. film, The Dark Knight Rises?” To which Bewkes replied: “What can we do about it? Is that the question? Not much.” At which point "a smattering of applause" broke out. [The Hollywood Reporter]
In typical rich guy fashion, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg isn't getting Council Speaker Christine Quinn a real wedding gift. Instead, he'll be donating an unspecified amount to a fund at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Cancer Center in honor of Quinn and wife-to-be Kim Catullo's moms, who both died of cancer. Thoughtful, but still: total rich guy gift. [New York Daily News]
Miley Cyrus is getting a new puppy. Good for her. She reportedly acquired the hound at Wal-Mart. [New York Daily News]
Prince Harry was caught muckling Prince William's no-longer nameless dog at a polo match over the weekend. It's worth clicking through for, if only to see how tenderly he strokes little Lupo's muzzle. [VF Daily]
The Los Angeles Times is officially axing the Sunday magazine that occasionally and sporadically appears with the paper. [LA Observed]
