We realize there's only so much time one can spend in a day watching new trailers, viral video clips, and shaky cell phone footage of people arguing on live television. This is why every dayThe Atlantic Wire highlights the videos that truly earn your five minutes (or less) of attention.
In the space of two months, Liddy, Abby, and Mary Anne Huntsman have made two silly viral videos -- a parody of a Herman Cain ad and a paordy of Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack," rewritten with GOP 2012-specific lyrics -- in support of their father, who is running for president and having some trouble with it. It seems harmless and goofy enough to us, but some in the media think these girls have an agenda. An agenda to become part of the media. Says Daily Intel's Dan Amira: "The only campaign this is going to help is the Huntsman daughters' thinly veiled campaign to parlay their dad's candidacy into some kind of post-election media gig." Which may be true, but isn't it possible they'r more interested in doing something -- anything -- to help their dad be president than becoming semi-regular panelists on Up with Chris Hayes? Just tell us it's possible. [Jon2012Girls]
A South American beer company called Norte claims to have developed a wastebasket sized device called Photoblocker that, according to Fast Company, "detects camera and cell phone flashes in 360 degrees, reflecting back a powerful flash that instantly destroys all attempted photos." It's so people on Facebook won't know you're drinking or necking with someone you shouldn't. That makes sense, but logic gets a little fuzzy when you see an actual photo, which makes it look like you are not drinking, but merely engulfed in flames. Can't you just restrict who has access to your photos? Or maybe just give up necking with people you shouldn't be necking with entirely? [Fast Company]
New York Knicks center Amar'e Stoudemire is still debating whether he wants to open a Hebrew school. If he doesn't, he'll always have a forum on Sesame Street, which he used yesterday to explain what "tov" means. (Good) [SLAM]
