Unadulterated power-pop is an increasingly rare commodity these days. Too many laptop producers, and not enough guitar chops in the current generation, apparently. But Los Angeles'
Army Navy is stellar proof that though the genre may be down, it's not out. If you ever owned a Posies album, let alone a Big Star record, you'll really appreciate what this band is up to. The recipe is straight-forward: ringing guitars, a crafty rhythm section, and quality, lovelorn lyrics delivered with real panache. However, the entire package is anything but rote. Would you complain about a perfect baguette?
Non. And there is nothing but quality music being served here. Bon appetite!
