Been meaning to link to this for awhile. Long time post Andy, reboots his old Everquest account. Not EQ2. The original "Working as a intended" EQ. The "A Sand Giant hits YOU for 1,312,234" EQ:


Wow, the graphics aged so insanely poorly. I mean, there are games from from 1994 (and probably older... Gold Box games, where are you?) that I can still play and *gasp* even enjoy the old school graphics on. But this was not one of them...

It actually looks way better in the screenshot than in game. Some games -- like City of Heroes, for example -- seem to screenshot horribly, with nothing flat looking as good as in game -- but this one... Well, let's just say the above makes the game look better.

And yet people are still playing. It's a great statement on how community can outlive technology. 
And then there's memory. Nothing trumps that first cross-country journey from Qeynos to Freeport. I'm tempted to log in on my wizard and train the Sand Giant to the docks one last time. I never did get my jboots...
