A ranked list of the Academy Award-winning films that have made the least money at the box office:
To determine the box-office ranking of the Best Picture winners, we adjusted their domestic grosses for inflation. The research team at The-Numbers.com provided us with each film's theatrical gross from the year it was released. We adjusted that number for inflation using a ratio of today's average movie ticket price to the average cost the year the film was released.
We also ranked the 15 highest-grossing Best Picture winners, and here Bill Wyman discusses the Oscars and the box office: "A Tale of Two Hollywoods."
