Months after notoriously dropping into a White House event uninvited, thereby winning a spot on The Real Housewives of D.C., socialite couple Tareq and Michaele Salahi have reached that apex of reality-TV fame: self-parody. On Tuesday night they did a staged, silent fake-crash of David Letterman's show, pretending to interrupt his monologue for a 3-second paparazzi photo-op. Tareq seems to enjoy the joke as much as the audience.
After they swoop offstage, Letterman quipped:
See it's interesting to me. For all practical purposes they're trespassing. But the crowd goes wild!
Now that they're a punchline, of course, any concern with the Salahis as a security risk is long gone. As Letterman concluded,
If those people crashed a party of mine--there was a mix-up in the invitations and they showed up--it wouldn't bother me.
