Audio from My Debate With Jelani Cobb

Editor’s Note: This article previously appeared in a different format as part of The Atlantic’s Notes section, retired in 2021.

Earlier this month, I debated Jelani Cobb of The New Yorker on the subject of free speech and the protests roiling college campuses around the United States. The event grew out of a back-and-forth in the pages of our respective publications. Audio is now available––to skip the introductions and coin toss, start at the 6:10 mark.

I'd love to hear your comments about our back-and-forth. This won’t be the last time I discuss these subjects and I’m eager to refine my positions.
