The $1.25 million reported in the filing is likely only a portion of Ms. Palin’s advance. Authors typically receive a payment when they sign a contract, and again when they submit a manuscript and yet again when the book is published. Other disclosures in the filings include tickets to a New York Yankees game worth $4,250 that Ms. Palin, her husband, Todd, and her daughter Willow received from Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York.
