The generational lurch toward liberalism is particularly pronounced among young whites. There is a convergence among the races under 30 toward Obama-style progressivism. I put it down to Bush: he simultaneously legitimized the therapeutic liberal state while his incompetence and social reactionaryism made conservatism toxic among the young. The damage Bush and Cheney and Rove have done to conservative arguments, principles and appeal will take at least a generation to repair.
