Track of the Day: ‘Fell in Love With a Boy’ by Joss Stone
Editor’s Note: This article previously appeared in a different format as part of The Atlantic’s Notes section, retired in 2021.
A slew of cover-song recommendations come from reader Dan Paton:
- How about Joss Stone’s version of The White Stripes’ “Fell in Love With a Girl,” which she retitled “Fell in Love With a Boy”
- Or the Isley Brothers’ interpolation of CSNY’s “Ohio” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun”
- Or Stevie Ray Vaughan’s cover of Hendrix’s “Little Wing”
- Or Paul Brady’s mid-tempo, bluesy cover of “Gimme Shelter” (from back when SoA was decent)
- Or perhaps my favourite of them all, Jeff Beck’s cover of “A Day in the Life” (fittingly, it was originally recorded for In My Life, a tribute to George Martin)
