Track of the Day: 'Miles Away'

Editor’s Note: This article previously appeared in a different format as part of The Atlantic’s Notes section, retired in 2021.

If you can ignore the product placement, this is a really chill beach song:

It’s by the indie/electric band Years Around the Sun, and reader Natalie recommended it:

This is my favorite song in the entire universe. It is so relaxing and soothing and captures a youthful and wistful feeling. I first heard this song junior year in high school. Seven years later, and it still never fails to bring me peace of mind. I travel frequently and for long periods of time, and this is always my go-to song because it reminds me why I’m venturing out and away from my comfort zone.

Great job on the picks [for the cover song series]! I was intrigued by this submission because “Heartbeats” by Jose Gonzalez is a top-10 song for me. Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah” is also one of those songs that you always connect to a certain kind of feeling as well.
