Rihanna Is Pissed CBS Removed Her Hook from Last Week's Thursday Night Football
Rihanna, known for speaking her mind on everything, was oddly silent after CBS pulled "Run This Town" from last week's Baltimore Ravens game preshow. She will be quiet no longer.
Rihanna sees you removing her hook from the Thursday Night Football preshow, CBS, and she's done with you.
CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, Fuck you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this.— Rihanna (@rihanna) September 16, 2014
As we told you last week, Rihanna's hook from Jay Z's "Run This Town" was originally supposed to play in the pregame show before last Thursday's Baltimore Ravens v. Pittsburgh Steelers game. However, considering the horrifyingly bad week the NFL had – most notably the banning of Ray Rice for assaulting his wife in an elevator – they were worried about how having a domestic abuse survivor's song would affect "tone." They were so worried, CBS Sports spokesman said it thrice:
We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage. A lot of the production elements we wanted in the show are being eliminated because of time or tone.”
"Run This Town" is the trio's 2009 hit with a catchy Riri hook tying the boys' verses together. Her lyrics include the phrases, "Life's a game but it's not fair / I break the rules so I don't care ... Walking tall against the rain / Victory's within the mile / Almost there, don't give up now." All very appropriate for a football game preshow.
But the tone! The tone, they say! Much better to remove a domestic abuse survivor's artistic work than to aggressively seek out and purge abusers from your programs. At least it's consistent with the victim-blaming the organization has been guilty of so far.
Now, CBS allegedly wants the hook back in for Thursday's game. And Rihanna is having not one bit of it.
The audacity...— Rihanna (@rihanna) September 16, 2014
Go ahead and read them, Riri.
As you'd expect, CBS has yet to comment, so it's not clear if the song will be appearing in Thursday's preshow. We'll update if we hear anything.
