Zara has pledged to destroy all of its striped shirts that accidentally evoked Holocaust-era uniforms thanks to a six-pointed yellow star on the right shoulder.
According to Businessweek, the shirts were on sale in a number of countries, including Israel. The cotton item was supposed to evoke "classic American Westerns."
Instead, the Spanish retailer pissed off just about everyone on Twitter.
@n_rothschild We honestly apologize, it was inspired by the sheriff’s stars from the Classic Western films and is no longer in our stores— ZARA (@ZARA) August 27, 2014
The top, which obviously didn't sell so well, “has been taken out of circulation due to the potential similarity with the Star of David that has been used as a yellow star patch." Good job, Internet.
