Meet Whit Stillman's Expats in a Trailer for Amazon's Latest Pilot
Whit Stillman has a new group of pretty young social climbers, and this time they are coming to your computer screen.
Whit Stillman has a new group of pretty young social climbers, and this time they are coming to your computer screen. Vanity Fair debuted a trailer today for Stillman's Amazon pilot The Cosmopolitans about a group of American expats in Paris. The show, which stars Chloe Sevigny and Adam Brody, isn't unfamiliar territory for Stillman, and even he admits to VF that it has elements of his first three films: Metropolitan, Barcelona, and the Sevigny-starring The Last Days of Disco. "You guys have girlfriends with names like Clemence?" Sevigny says to open the trailer.
Stillman's pilot hasn't even picked up to series yet, but it's already a subject of a New York magazine feature in which Sevigny says that this is the "most glamorous" character she has ever played and Stillman waxes about the "urban haute bourgeoisie."
As is now tradition, Amazon Studios is putting its latest batch of pilots online before it decides which ones will advance. Five new ones will be available August 28, and there are other denizens of the film world making the jump to TV (or, rather, computer). Red Oaks, for instance, is a comedy produced by Steven Soderbergh and directed by David Gordon Green.
