Brazil is now down five goals to zilch in their semifinal match against Germany in the World Cup. Sorry, lil' one. Sometimes home field advantage just doesn't work out.
Just to give you an idea of how unusual this is, teams at the World Cup don't usually concede five goals in the first thirty minutes:
This is the second time in #WorldCup history a team has scored 5 goals in the first 30 minutes of a game (Yugoslavia vs. Zaire - 1974)

anything less than winning the World Cup this year would be a failure, so a semi-final exit is what, a horrifying cataclysm?)
Of course, the internet is aghast at the game, which was expected to be competitive despite the lack of Neymar and Thiago Silva, partially just because of Brazil's incredible record at the tournament, which includes five trophies.
I never thought I'd say this: Brazilian fans are leaving, before halftime, of a World Cup semifinal in their home country. It's stunning.

The internet quickly jumped to jokes about German world-conquering and Brazilian hubris. Some of the better takes so far:
Brazil really should not have put 4th grade me at goalie.

So I guess, by the transitive property, the USMNT is, like, waaaaaaaaaaay better than Brazil.

The last time I saw a Brazil this bleak it was getting directed by Terry Gilliam
